Greater Bay Area University Officially Established and Jointly Builds Research Institute with Various Hong Kong Universities

2025年12月6日，大灣區大學在廣東東莞松山湖校區舉行了成立大會，正式宣告這所以理工科為主的新型研究型大學的成立。大灣區大學創校校長田剛在接受媒體採訪時表示，以「大灣區」命名的新大學肩負著推動粵港澳三地融合的重要使命。

On December 6, 2025, the Greater Bay Area University held its inauguration ceremony at the Songshan Lake campus in Dongguan, Guangdong, marking the official establishment of a new research-oriented university focused on science and engineering. The founding president, Tian Gang, stated in a media interview that the university, named after the "Greater Bay Area," has an important mission to promote the integration of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.

目前，大灣區大學已與香港中文大學及澳門大學展開博士聯合培養計劃，並與香港各高校合作設立聯合研究院，著重推進先進材料、綠色能源等領域的研究。

Currently, the university has initiated a joint doctoral training program with The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Macau, and has established a joint research institute with various Hong Kong universities focusing on advanced materials and green energy research.

大灣區大學現擁有300多名科研教師，所有教師均持有博士學位，其中超過70%的教師具備海外學習和工作經歷。學校隊伍中有11位海內外院士及78名國家級人才，已初步形成高水平的國際化師資隊伍，並促進與港澳科研院校的合作。

Greater Bay Area University currently has over 300 research faculty members, all holding doctoral degrees, with more than 70% having international study and work experience. The faculty includes 11 academicians from both domestic and international backgrounds, as well as 78 national-level talents, forming a high-level internationalized teaching team that facilitates collaboration with research institutions in Hong Kong and Macao.

田剛強調，許多教職員曾在香港或澳門高校任教，對兩地的科研生態十分熟悉，有助於加快與港澳高校的合作。他指出，大灣區大學將積極利用港澳高校的科研優勢，為地區的科技創新和人才培養作出貢獻。

Tian Gang emphasized that many faculty members have previously taught at universities in Hong Kong or Macau, which enhances their understanding of the scientific research ecology in these regions and will accelerate collaboration with universities in Hong Kong and Macau. He noted that Greater Bay Area University will actively leverage the research strengths of these institutions to contribute to regional technological innovation and talent development.

獲悉，學校與香港中文大學合作建立的「大灣區大學—香港中文大學先進材料與綠色能源研究院」已落戶松山湖。大灣區大學物質科學學院院長趙金奎表示，該研究院目前的科研主力仍在香港，但東莞團隊正在逐步擴張。他提到，雙方正考慮在教師招聘方面實施「聯合聘任」制度，部分新聘教師將由大灣區大學與港中文研究院共同聘用。

Reports indicate that the research institute jointly established with The Chinese University of Hong Kong, known as the "Greater Bay Area University - The Chinese University of Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Materials and Green Energy," has been set up in Songshan Lake. The dean of the School of Materials Science at Greater Bay Area University, Zhao Jinkui, stated that the main research force is currently situated in Hong Kong, but the Dongguan team is gradually expanding. He mentioned that both parties are considering implementing a "joint appointment" system for faculty recruitment, where some newly hired teachers will be employed jointly by Greater Bay Area University and the research institute.

趙金奎解釋，這一機制將允許共聘教師同時利用兩地的資源，在學院及港中文研究院進行科研，這對跨機構研究大有裨益。他認為，此舉將促進科研資源共享、團隊建設及項目協作，成為跨境科研合作的制度創新範例，進而推動粵港澳的科技協作。

Zhao Jinkui explained that this mechanism will allow joint-appointed faculty members to access resources from both locations, conducting research at both the university and the research institute, which will greatly benefit cross-institutional research. He believes this initiative will promote sharing of research resources, team building, and project collaboration, serving as a model for innovative institutional cooperation across borders and furthering technological collaboration between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau.

大灣區大學於2025年6月獲得教育部正式批複，並在8月迎來了首屆80位本科新生。校方定位於「理工科、小而精、高水平研究型」，根據灣區產業需求設置了數學、物理、材料、計算機及工業工程五個本科專業。首年學生將不分專業，鼓勵探索興趣，次年可根據志向選擇數學、物理、人工智能及未來機器人等方向，並提供跨學科輔修的機會。

Greater Bay Area University received formal approval from the Ministry of Education in June 2025 and welcomed its first cohort of 80 undergraduate students in August. The university is positioned as "science and engineering, small yet refined, and high-level research-oriented," and has established five undergraduate programs in mathematics, physics, materials, computer science, and industrial engineering based on the industrial demands of the Greater Bay Area. In the first year, students will explore their interests without being divided into majors, and in the following year, they can choose to focus on fields such as mathematics, physics, artificial intelligence, and future robotics, with opportunities for interdisciplinary minors.
